Bobbie Troy

By Bobbie Troy

arrogance lives
on top of a mountain
looking down
on the lowly peasants
until eventually
the peasants
refuse to look up

This Life
By Bobbie Troy

this life
is not what I thought
it would be
the joy and the pain
the routine and rapture
all mixed into one
and offered like
a twin popsicle
that tastes sweet
with the eating
then disappears
and disappoints
when gone

This Life #2
By Bobbie Troy

in our daily struggles
with our inner wars
and outer wars
time passes by
until eventually
we hope
to see things
as clearly
as a pristine beach
at low tide

Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome
By Bobbie Troy

as he walked
through the front door
his bravado slipped
to the floor
as if he wouldn’t need it
any more

his wife looked at him longingly
but all he could see
was the civilian female
who he shot by accident
during a village raid

his son rushed up to him
a stranger after two years
and all he could see
was the faces
of the orphaned and maimed children
who wandered the streets begging

he glanced back at the doorway
hoping he could recapture
the bravado that he needed
so badly
to navigate this new enemy territory

By Bobbie Troy

she kept on eating
as if the food
could fill her empty womb
and heal the holes of loneliness
in her heart
of course, it couldn’t
so she had to get rid of it
but she continued to try
and try
until there remained
only an empty shell
of a person
who used to be
