Harris Tobias Returns

The Evolution of Weeds

After years of selective weeding

The weeds have grown more cunning

The slow and stupid plants plucked out long ago

Now the swift and crafty few remain

(Although few is a relative term)

To spread their germ to the next generation

Those hardy survivors have learned

A new and stealthy procreation

They know how to outwit and to hide

To lurk among the roses and the beans

Using camouflage and misdirection

To avoid detection by any means

My incessant weeding has culled

The dullards from the pool

And have inadvertently selected for the very traits

I did not want. I’m such a fool.
