BUY VERSUS RENT
We furnished our first apartment
with bean bags and packing crates.
Lava lamps lit our way.
Incense informed our senses.
Lacking shelves, we stacked,
from precious vinyl to two
lifetimes worth of books.
Curios whiled away their time in boxes.
Looking around those four rooms,
it was clearly evident where what
we owned ended and where
what we rented began.
Skin and hardwood floor for example.
Or chipped cups and ceiling stain.
For dreams, there was our mattress.
For reality, the walls it kitty-cornered into.John
